going to a fan park tonight.

don’t be afraid of poxy light. just play with the light, even if it bursts straight in through the lens.

you are after all painting with light and the mind has not expected all that is still to offer from photography.

you are also expressing the moment and the eye tires of the same same, shoot different but keep an eye on expressing the moment.

the story counts my friend!

while fifa rakes in the millions and hearts break as the teams start to crash out. the little people of this land get their stories told.

the spotlight of thew world cup has brought the world’s focus on the many issues of south africa.

and i am glad for this…

i shot into the light, the greens and reds of the sun burned across the imagery almost as if fighting to prevent what it was that filled the frame at the time from being frozen in time.

it was as if i jossed with the sun for my image, tilting to the side dropping for a fraction the tip of the hood but always watching the development of the material that was before me.

straining for the moment to capture the frame as i hoped it to be.

only later i was able to sit in a quiet place and judge for my self it it was all worth while.

see you all when the light is back, even with 6400 iso i doubt that even the nikon will produce the goods.

its pitch dark outside and freezing cold, i am off to bed, may the best man win and all the rest will head to bed.

back in the days of film the crank would still wind but at least then you had to know what you shot and there were no chimps in the bush.

chimping is when you are looking history in the face when opportunity is waiting for you to get a grip on what it really is to make photographs.

try it, take a pic, check it out on the screen and while you do this the story in front of you is carrying on but no one is taking notice.

i loved the g5 canon, it was a great bit of small kit in it’s time. the m6 will always be great, but for tri x only. let go of colour film guys! i know that i am late into the digital game but you know something its great in colour work.

i have some b&w film though for my personal work, but those nikon sensors are just so sweet.

sorry all you canon guys out there, loved the mark ii 5ds but well i started out on nikon fe2s and well when the sensors got good and yes while i was harping on the greatness of film too at the time. i got kicked on the ass and well a person put me in touch with my fresh nikon and am loving it.

i am a leica m6 photog, i love the camera and all that it is. it is the camera that i have used for years and it’s just the best.

but its not digital and my new nikon dlsr kicks the crap out of it as far as colour work goes. i am a photojournalist and i use colour images to do my work and to upgrade to the leica m9 or what ever it is is just a non starter.

you can argue the odds but let me be, i will continue with tri x in the m6 for years to come but when i walked into the dark places and upped the iso i was blown away with the colour results…

Today I learned the difference between just informing a client and really selling the difference between myself and others.

I have a passion about the life lived in Africa, and I use photography to tell more the the usual one thousand words. I have lived in Africa all my life and I am steeped in the taste, like a good tea, in African life.

Take a sip of my imagery and see if you can smell that same African heat and passion for life.

And I do this well…

the new dslr that i have does a hd video, the voices and thoughts of those that i see are there also for the others that will later see the final cut.

their thoughts give me insight and act as a focus finder to what it was that brought me there in the first place.

bringing back enlightening and adding a bit to the final story.
